ABOUT
YOUR INSTRUCTORS
Ron Smith has been employed in
the forensic identification field since 1972, first with the FBI, then with
the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and from 1978 until his retirement in
July 2002 with the Mississippi Crime Laboratory. As Associate Director, he
served as supervisor of the Meridian Branch of the Mississippi Crime Lab
System. He is a specialist in courtroom testimony instruction, latent
fingerprint examinations and crime scene examinations and has provided
expert witness testimony in over five hundred cases in numerous states. He
has been certified by the International Association for Identification in
latent prints and crime scenes and is the recipient of the
John A.
Dondero Memorial Award
and the Dedication to Service Award.
James E. Bush, Senior
Consultant/Instructor James E. “Jamie” Bush earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, MS. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy. He began his career in criminal justice as a uniformed police officer in 1975 with the City of Laurel, MS Police Department. After four years in the Patrol Division, he was transferred to the Criminal Investigative Division (CID) where he was trained in crime scene investigation and fingerprint science. Jamie successfully elevated in rank from Investigator up to Captain and served as commander of the CID. In 1992, he was appointed to serve as Chief of Police. In 1995, he retired from the Laurel Police Department and accepted a position with the Mississippi Crime Laboratory as a Latent Print Examiner. He has served as a Senior Examiner/Trainer, Team Leader of the Crime Scene Response Unit, Forensic Section Chief and presently serves as the Regional Manager of the Meridian facility of the Mississippi Crime Laboratory system. He continues to conduct latent print examinations and provides training for the criminal justice and forensic communities in the areas of fingerprint science, crime scene investigation and courtroom testimony. Mr. Bush has qualified in State and Federal Courts numerous times to provide expert witness testimony in the areas of latent print examination and crime scene investigation. He is a member of the International Association for Identification (IAI), and has achieved IAI certification in the areas of Latent Prints (CLPE) and Crime Scene Examination (CSCSA). Jamie currently serves as Secretary of the Latent Print Certification Board of the IAI. |

GENERAL COURSE INFORMATION (This course was previously titled: Demystifying Palm Prints) Daily Schedule: This course will begin at 8:00 a.m. on the 1st day of the workshop. Classes will begin each day promptly at 8:30 a.m. and conclude by 4:30 p.m. On the last day, the class should conclude no later than 4:30 p.m. Class attire should be casual and comfortable. This training seminar has
been approved for 24 hours of Continuing Education Credit required for I.A.I.
