Course Description

ATTENTION CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATORS:

  • Have you ever wondered what is the MOST OFTEN OVERLOOKED TYPE OF EVIDENCE in a crime scene?

  • Have you ever seen a shoeprint at a crime scene and not collected it BECAUSE YOU DIDN’T HAVE THE TOOLS OR THE TRAINING?

  • Has the Crime Laboratory ever advised you that your shoeprint or tire print evidence was not collected in a manner satisfactory for examination?

  • Do you know how to collect known tire track exemplars from your SUSPECT’S vehicle?

  • Do you know the difference between two dimensional and three dimensional impressions and how to adequately document them using photography?

WHY SHOULD YOU TAKE THIS COURSE?

Rather than enter the next crime scene and trample the very footsteps of the suspect, the student will learn how to do more than carefully step around these impressions. Instead, with confidence, the student will be able to locate, document, collect and properly preserve this valuable form of impression evidence.

Through HANDS-ON exercises, the student will gain a working knowledge of the proper photographic documentation techniques required to preserve the impression evidence for future comparison and identification.

Once photographed, the evidence will need to be properly casted or lifted. During the HANDS-ON portion of this training, these techniques will be demonstrated and then practiced by each student.

The student will understand the value of collecting information from all four tires left behind at a crime scene, as well as, learn the correct methods for collecting known tire exemplars.
